Kober and Grabner triumph in the World Cup Opener in Landgraaf
It was a season’s opening as measured: With their victory in the first Parallel Slalom of the NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup 2006/2007, Amelie Kober (GER) and Austrian Siegfried Grabner had the perfect start in the new snowboard winter. 18 years-old Olympic Silver medallist Kober successfully competed against Austrian Marion Kreiner in the ladies’ final and thus celebrated her career’s first World Cup win one month prior her birthday. Heidi Neururer (AUT) came in third ahead of Swiss talent Patrizia Kummer.
On the men’s side, Grabner can call himself “Mister Landgraaf” from now on because the Carinthian athlete was able to repeat his last season’s triumph in the Netherlands beating again Simon Schoch (SUI) in the remake of last year’s final. In the battle for third, Marc Iselin (SUI) crossed the finish line ahead of Swedish Daniel Biveson.
“I never thought that my first World Cup win would be a Parallel Slalom but today I had an unbelievable feeling. I was racing down with a massive euphoria which helped avoiding mistakes” Kober summed up the second Parallel victory for the German ladies’ team. “That’s so crazy. I have what I always dreamed to have: the Yellow Bib. I hope that I can keep it up like this.”
‘Sigi’ Grabner was all smiles about his second triumph in Landgraaf in a row because above all he “was riding constant and very good. It was a perfect race on an excellent prepared slope. I wouldn’t mind if we would kick off the season every time here in SnowWorld.”
