Season’s first Big Air in Stockholm / Outstanding line-up

Thursday, 9 November 2006

It’s snow time, it’s show time! Almost one month after the alpine snowboarders kicked off the current season of the NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup, it’s up to the freestylers to start into their winter. On
November 11th, 2006, the artists of the air soar through the sky at the Big Air in Stockholm. The Olympic arena Stockholm stadium is hosting this breathtaking event including the night finals which for the first time are organized in a knock-out-format.

A world class line-up already confirmed their attendance at the debut of the Swedish capital as a tour stop host of the NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup. Besides the dominating riders of last winter like Big Air World Cup winner Stefan Gimpl (AUT) as well as second and third ranked Matevz Petek (SLO) and Ville Uotila (FIN) a bunch full of other stars are showing up.

Local legend Hampus Mosesson (SWE), Andreas Wiig (NOR) and Heikki Sorsa from Finland will be jumping a Big Air World Cup ramp for the first time ever in their career. In addition, double World Champion Antti Autti (FIN) and his fellow country man Risto Mattila as well as Markus Keller (SUI), Swedish Chris Soerman, Giacomo Kratter from Italy and Alessandro Boyens (GER) will be among the cracks in Stockholm.

A line-up of international top guns which Stefan Gimpl is looking forward to competing against: “It’s awesome that all of these guys are coming. This guarantees a contest of top snowboarding. I’m really looking forward to starting there!” Even more because the finals of the top 16 qualifiers will be organized in a new K.o.-format: “It will be a super show for the spectators. Although I’m personally not that good in duels, it will make it more exciting for the fans.”

Time schedule:
Saturday, November 11th, 2006: Big Air Qualifications at 09:30
                                                     Big Air Finals at 18:10
                                                      All local times
