Double Win For Finland - Janne Korpi Wins In Leysin - 5 (five) Star 2006 Nescafe Champs Open

Risto Mattila Takes Lead – TTR World Championships Race
Leysin, Switzerland – Finland had plenty to celebrate as the 2006 Nescafe Champs Open came to a close. With one event champion and a new TTR World Snowboard Tour leader the event became one of the biggest turning points on the Tour. The Open Slopestyle event, a 5(five) Star rated TTR Tour stop, hosted the worlds best riders from the 2nd to the 5th February and in proven form animated thousands of visitors who flocked to indulge in world class action and showmanship.
Janne Korpi was an exceptional standout throughout the event securing a spot on the Super-finals together with Risto Mattila(FIN) and Torstein Horgmo(NOR). The three Scandiavian’s were up against three other top riders consisting of Switzerland’s Gian Simmen, Markus Keller and Pascal Imhof. The super six finals was a bouquet top ten TTR Championships listing of the who’s-who in professional freestyle snowboarding and would remix the long standing Tour domination by France’s Mathieu Crepel.
With the best of two rider counting towards the final scores it was the young Finn Korpi who took top honors, the event title and a juicy $12,000USD check. Second went to Mattila with Switzerland’s Olympic hopes Simmen in third.
Risto Mattila, already second on the TTR Leader board prior to the Nescafe Champs added 800.95 TTR points to his already bulging four-best-score tour average and has now relegated the long standing leader, Crepel into second place. The result has given Mattila a season record of three seconds and one win. His 34.49point advantage over his closest rival makes him a serious contender for the TTR World Nr#1 title crowning at the end of the season.
More movement on the Tour leaders board came from Simmen’s third which rocketed him to seventh place, 194.93 points behind Mattila. The same goes for event winner Korpi who’s success on the weekend won him 850 TTR Championships Points and drove his current World standing to a very respectable sixth with a total of 656.63 points.
With the 15th Anniversary of the Nescafe Champs Open successfully completed, the tour continues onwards to France where the 4(four) Star Event The XBOX Big Day Out awaits touring competitors in the beautiful town of Val D’Isere from the 20-23 Feb. See www.xboxbigdayout.com
