After the recent large dumps of snow, some 80 centimetres in 48 hours
the conditions at Perisher Blue are some of the best over the past 5 years. And
it certainly bodes well for the remainder of the season.
Even before the large dumps arrived Perisher got its halfpipe up and running, making it the first resort in Australia to have a pipe in 2003. Over the past three years Perisher has shown it’s commitment to providing quality snowboard and ski facilities by putting in the effort to construct the halfpipe, whatever the snow conditions and this year is no exception.
With experienced pipe groomers from Squaw Valley maintaining the pipe the quality of the pipe holds no surprises. The pipe is still below its regulation height of 12 feet but this will easily be reached after a few more cuts and with all the ample snow Perisher now has.
All lifts and all areas at Perisher are now open. Blue Cow and Guthega are the picks for freeriding.
If you haven't been to Perisher yet you are going to be blown away when you see the new 8-seater Express. The thing is gargantuan. It has totally transformed Front Valley and dramatically reduced congestion on all other Front Valley lifts.
Coming up this weekend at Perisher is the Wild Winter Weekend, which incorporates the Shred for Bread and the Leap for Loot. Next week Perisher is hosting the Freeride Invitation, which is a premier event for snowboarder and skiers. It will feature the halfpipe, boardercross and big air.
More snow is forecast this week so plan to get down there ASAP.
