By Press Release

Friday, 24 June 2005

The Billabong Freeway Tour runs throughout August in 2005 and for the second consecutive year ventures across the Tasman to Snow Park, New Zealand. The Freeway Tour is about showcasing the freestyle talent of the Australian and International snowboarding fraternity and providing an arena for the snowboard loving public to view the best riders in the world.

It is also about hosting the radical parties the snow season is regarded for, pushing snowboarding to new levels and journeying throughout the Australian snowfields in the infamous Billabong Bus. Headlining the Billabong Freeway Tour elite guest list for 2005 will be X Games and World Champion Antti Autti (Finland), Clint Allan (Aus), Nick Gregory (Aus) and current world junior champion Abi Bright (Aus).

Kicking off on August 13th in Thredbo before invading Perisher for the Perisher Pipe Cup on August 14th, the Billabong Freeway Tour also encompasses the Billabong Slopestyle Jam Hotham (August 19-21), the Panasonic Nightrail Hotham (August 19) and the Billabong Slopestyle Jam Snowpark NZ (August 26-28).

The Perisher Pipe Cup as it stands is a no holds barred, two hour freestyle Half Pipe session, judged on a riders best run. With a winner take all $500 booty, the Perisher Pipe Cup is an explosion of style and technique in a format which allows multiple runs.

The Billabong Slopestyle Jam presented by Panasonic pits the world’s most insane riders against each other on purpose built terrain parks of kickers, rails, wedges, half-pipes and boxes, vying for AUD$ 15,000 worth of cash and prizes.

Divisions in this years Billabong Slopestyle jam include Open Men's, Open Women's, Junior Men's, Junior Women's and Grommets. The winners of the junior division of the Billabong Slopestyle Jam Hotham and Snow Park NZ each earn a wildcard to compete at the Billabong World Junior Pro of Snowboarding held in France each March, recognised as the premiere U/21 snow event on the planet.

When the Billabong Freeway Tour comes to town it brings with it some outlandish snow season parties. With special screenings of the all new Kevolution: The Life and Times of Kevin Jones and guest parties starring the musical genius of Kid Kenobi and Melbourne’s Sure Cut Kids, the Freeway Tour and Slopestyle Jam event parties are always something sepecial.
