Mt Hutt community smiling with three metre base
Saturday, 6 September 2008
Skiers and riders are in for a treat this weekend at Mt Hutt with fresh snow on a 3 metre base and the promise of fine weather.
Over 65 cm of new snow fell overnight (and continues to fall) closing the ski area today (Friday), but with sunny skies forecast skiers and riders can expect to be ripping it up at the high country resort over the weekend.
Ski Area Manager, Dave Wilson said the Mt Hutt community was whooping with delight at the fresh snow.
“We’re having a brilliant season and breaking the 3m base measurement really is the cream on the cake,” he said.
“This is the first time in more than a decade we’ve had a 3 metre base for over a decade and extensive terrain has opened up as a result. You can just about ski or ride anywhere,” he added.
Mr Wilson said this recent snow fall boded well for great conditions for the rest of the month and into the school holidays.
Mt Hutt is scheduled to remain open until 19th October.
