Kamui Ski Links Kamui Ski Fields (pronounced Kam-u-i), which is about an hours drive from Furano, but only about 20 minutes from the 2nd biggest city in Hokkaido, called Asahikawa City.

Kamui has a great vibe to it, you immediately feel comfortable here, and it’s a good-sized mountain to have some fun at and plenty of snow falls here as well as it does everywhere in Hokkaido. Monday – Friday the mountain will be pretty free from crowds and even though plenty of weekenders and families come from Asahikawa there are areas all over the place where you can ride without crowds. You will also bump into a few westerners as there a whole bunch of English teachers in the city.
The Boss at Kamui, Mr Maeda is 65 years old and has been managing the resort for 30 years and used to be a pro skier skiing from the age of 5. In the summer he gets into the trees and starts cutting new runs, dedication like that is pretty cool.
Free Ride The trees are somewhat tight in some areas, so you have to watch yourself as you thread your way through, but there are some great areas inbounds where you can have loads of fun.
Plenty of hits and snow mushrooms to launch off, the black runs and trees off to the far skiers right off the peak is a great place to head to.
The groomed runs are fast and in top condition to shoot down early mornings.
Don’t go to far out of bounds on the other side of the ropes as they drop down into some gullies that will take some work, there is actually plenty to be had inside the ropes.
Bottom line, if in town don’t miss out on a great place to ride.
Free Style A small terrain park can be found skiers left off the peak with easy access back to the top with a double chair. Containing a couple of smaller tabletops and rails.
Another couple of tabletops can be found underneath the main gondola towards the bottom of the hill.
Terrain Map Unfortunately there is no English website at this time or translated english terrain map, but check out the the Japanese version on the website link in the stat's column.
Weather It’s Hokkaido, so as with everywhere else it snows heaps and the sun rarely comes out to play, we managed to score a pretty good day visibility wise when we dropped in and the views over the valley below are wicked.
Lunch The pick is MT 751 Café at the top of the mountain, run by Aussie Mark who also runs a bar called ‘ The Den’ in Asahikawa. You can hook into the good old Aussie Meat Pie as he gets them imported from oz, let me tell you they taste great and you can choose plenty of other local food and beverages.

The base lodge also has plenty to choose from as well, but the views from the top as you warm yourself in front of the fireplace are the way to go.
NightLife Head back to Asahikawa, as it is the 2nd biggest city on Hokkaido after Sapporo, to dance drink and chat up the gorgeous Japanese girls.
Mark’ bar ‘The Den’ is a place where you can meet other westerners.
