Niseko Moiwa Moiwa (was known as La Ponte for a couple of seasons) is the little cousin in the Niseko region. It is actually only on the other side of the An’nupuri ridgeline and you can check out the amazing back bowls on offer when you are up on the peak of Niseko An’nupuri.
To get to Moiwa it is only another 20 minutes by road from Niseko Village.
Moiwa is famous for it’s high quality fresh snow and the fact that it has such a great friendly atmosphere.
The views of Mt Yotei and the An’nupuri back bowls on a clear day are just spectacular.

Serviced by a single quad chair that takes you to the peak and a twin chair that lifts you up about ¾ of the way up the mountain, it is all that is need to access some truly wicked terrain.
Moiwa is only a small mountain but it is quiet and even though close to Niseko, rarely is there any crowds. Most days you will be only one of a handful of punters enjoying the mountain and you will have the time of your life.
Rock and punk music blasts out of the PA system, which is much better than the usual Japanese sounds that come over the PA at other resorts and puts you in a great fame of mind to rip up some light and deep powder.
Free Riding The ‘Main Burn’ is considered the best and widest single run in the Niseko area. I would have to agree, high speed runs down are so much fun, the groom stays groomed well into the afternoon due to the lack of crowds.
Taking the Hooded quad up to the peak provides all the best options inbounds and entry gates into the back bowls.
The view alone is wicked, head to skiers left and drop into the trees at ‘ Sky Slope’ and ‘The Shirakaba Slope’.
Off the peak take Skiers right and take hold of the ‘Giant Run’ a short but steep section that our skiing brethren love to mogul out, this flows into ‘The Main Burn’ or you can move left into the ‘Expert Run’ or head into the trees at the ' The Forest Run’.

Though the best goods are off the back off the peak, you can hike out a little and traverse along the rear ridgeline and drop into some glorious tree terrain.
Just make sure you are equipped with the right gear, the ski patrol are cool with this and it all ends up at the bottom of the quad chair, be warned though there is an incredibly gnarly runout than can throw you up and spit you out.
Free Style Usually there are some tabletops set up over on the ‘expert run’ take the Double chair to access this and a couple of rails.
Otherwise out the back you will find some very nice drops to launch off.
Weather
As anywhere in the Niseko region the weather is normally overcast and grey and snowing, a bluebird day is rare and the sun is a beautiful sight when it decides to shows its face, but hey who’s complaining there is so much snow falling here that who cares about the sun.
Because everyone stays in Niseko the slopes rarely get crowded and the benefit of this is that all the powder that dumps here in the Niseko region and there is oodles of it, you can still be finding fresh tracks here days after a storm.

Lunch
A newly renovated day lodge makes for a comfortable place to chill out for lunch, take a ticket from the vending machine (match the pictures with the Japanese written buttons) and take it to the counter for lunch, awesome curries that will fill you up for the afternoons powder riding. Downstairs hook onto the new wireless LAN system to access the net and check out the latest on boardtheworld.com while having a hot drink.
NightLife
Head back to Niseko village and hit one of the many bars in town.
